This Is The Real News

First things first. I have heard from so many of you who have been reading my blog and I have been delighted by your comments and stories. Thank you for contributing to me in this way. I can’t begin to tell you how each one of you brightens my day and energizes me. Receiving energy from another is such a gift and so it has inspired me to try and pay it forward.

I had a very interesting conversation with our Director of Social Awareness, Vince Incandela, the other day. We were talking about some of the things that people in our community were doing to make a difference in the world. We both noted how energized the conversation had left us and wondered why people didn’t talk about these things more. Both of us commented on how we felt after listening to the 6:00 news and how we felt after this conversation. I am not in any way putting down the 6:00 news, or the value that it has in our lives. I am just wondering why there is not as much said about the wonderful things that are going on in our world. My colleague suggested that people just don’t like hearing about this stuff as much. So I thought I would check it out. Let me know your thoughts.

In my own company here are some of the world changing events that are happening:

Denis Sandecki, who has 2 daughters, gave up his weekends for a number of years to coach boys’ football. He didn’t just coach the sport. He taught the boys some really important lessons about life and how to excel at it. I just found out a few moments ago that Denis’s oldest daughter, Katie, was recently awarded the National Scholarship Achievement Award, the Leadership Award, The Citizenship Award, and the Physical Education Student of the Year Award at her graduation. No coincidence there. She had great mentors in both her parents.

Then there is Crissy Johnson, who has been honored by the Girl Scouts of America for all her contributions over the years. I love listening to her stories of the activities she creates with her troops. I often think how powerful it must be for the girls going through the normal pains of growing up to have the friendship community Crissy has created to support them.

Finally, for today, because there are so many more stories to tell in our company, there is Randy Troutman who coaches a high school rugby team. Again, no high school child of his own, but he gives up his time a couple nights a week because he values teaching the sport and the leadership skills the game and team require. He tells me he is learning as much as he teaches.

THIS IS THE REAL NEWS! The extraordinary things that ordinary people do each and every day that will change the world we live in. A political stalemate, another celebrity scandal, a stock market slide, are all important, but I will always argue that the simple things we do each and every day that get no media attention are really the most important things happening in our world.

I came across two web links that I would like to share as well. The first is a true story about how one employee made a difference though the service he gave his customers and the other is a link to my daughter’s website. On it she highlights ‘Greenola’ women. Just click on the link and go to the highlighted names to see the amazing things that these ’twenty-somethings’ are up to.

A measure of how we are doing as parents is the difference our children are making in the world. Kudos to all of you for the amazing difference you are creating by how you live your lives each and every moment, and exemplifying for the next generation; living powerfully.

IF YOUR ACTIONS INSPIRE OTHERS TO DREAM MORE. LEARN MORE, DO MORE, AND BECOME MORE, YOU ARE A LEADER. Thanks Rachel Ross, my niece, for sharing these great words with me.

Please enjoy and I hope you are energized as I was by all of this. Who needs caffeine?☺☺☺
