Shift The Universe Today

Today I was reminded of my favorite story about Gandhi. During his hunger strike to end the horrendous fighting taking place around him, a follower came to him soon after the murder of his daughter, pleading with Gandhi; saying he would stop his fighting if only Gandhi would eat again. Gandhi told the man he would eat only when the suffering father embraced the man who had killed his daughter. The story is told that the man did as Gandhi requested and the larger conflict ended.

The story teller goes on to say that this reveals an irrefutable wisdom that only as the broken are healed will we as a people heal.

I can’t quite explain how the universe is connected to our individual actions but I know that it is and I am reminded in this story of that mysterious connection. Every action has a reaction and an action by you, where you live, can make a difference in New York City, Dubai, or some other place not directly touching you. If you’ve ever said something to someone in passing and had them come back years later and tell you that what you said changed their life then you know what I am speaking about. And in changing their life, you changed that of their families’, their friends’, and coworkers’. There is no telling the effect that their community of people then had in the world. Your everyday action shifted the universe, just as someone’s words or actions might have shifted your world at one time in your life.

So as the ‘Summer of 2010’ begins I wish for all of us an awareness of each and every action we take, and each and every word we speak, knowing that within our words and actions lies the power to shift the universe.
