Sustainable Solutions
Triple Bottom Line
LMI Packaging Solutions embraces a Triple Bottom Line (3BL) business approach - People, Planet, Profitability. Our company utilizes 100% renewable energy for our business operations. Using resources wisely has been our company philosophy for over four decades.
Beginning in 2010 we committed to purchasing Renewable Energy to offset the electricity used in our manufacturing operations. LMI Packaging also joined the U.S. EPA's Green Power Partnership, a voluntary program to reduce the environmental impact of electricity generation by building demand for green power.
Joining the U.S. EPA's Green Power Partnership is an added component of LMI Packaging's sustainability strategy. Our other environmental initiatives include substantial and sustainable reductions in waste output and energy savings. Here are a few of our achievements to date:
- 100% energy offset thru We Energies - Energy for Tomorrow program.
- Implementation of facility wide recycling program including office paper, PET plastic containers, aluminum cans, corrugated, foil and non-food products. Results equal 75% reduction of solid waste volume taken to the landfill.
- Utilizing 97% water-based ink ingredients in our flexographic printing process which are non-toxic, lead-free and do not contain any heavy metals. The water-based inks used do not produce odors normal associated with solvent-based inks.
During 2010, LMI Packaging’s executive team approved a capital requisition to install a state-of-the-art heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) control system reducing the demand for natural gas and electricity. The new system provides additional control over dates, times and temperatures for operating the HVAC in the production, warehouse and office areas, especially during times of in occupancy such as weekends and holidays.
The annualized benefits of this change are equivalent to the following reductions:
48 tons of Green House Gases, or
23 cars removed from the road, or
5,950 fewer gallons of natural gas, or
142 barrels of oil not used.
For LMI Packaging, developing a sustainable environmental approach to business involves every department and doesn't end at the door. We have implemented an employee awareness program highlighting benefits of recycling and energy savings within our facility and at home.
"Working Together, Growing Together"
